And, a roleplay! It'll steadily get larger so I'll put it under a read more, and I'll just keep it under this post. So for updates on the roleplay, just click the RP and you'll see all replies, from my friend and from me. The characters of my friend are Shade, Nate, and Jade. I have Bea, Lea, and Jade. Ye. So let's begin!
Shade's POV:
Halloween.
The time for making caramel apples, the time that all the leaves fell and smelled beautifully fresh, the time to scare the living shit out of trick-or-treaters by running around as a bear or a black cat or something.
I loved Halloween. It was my absolute favorite time of the year. And it was made even better by the fact that Nate and I were hosting the party of the century at our place. All of the important Shadows were invited. Actually, everyone above the rank of tier five was required to attend. Fortunately for them, it wasn't a costume party, but they would need to be dressed to impress. Meetings weren't a casual affair, after all. And Nate was not easily pleased. It wasn't only a party, of course. Nate was holding some sort of 'important meeting' or something to have some kind of discussion about methods or ethics or strategies. Refreshments and beverages would be available, as would socialization (the meeting would last ten minutes at the most, and everyone , but Nate thought of the affair as 'strictly business.'
Rumor was that Jade would be there (although reluctantly). Nate hated her, but since she was the leader (and practically the figurehead of the entire Shadow force), she was not to miss the occasion.
I certainly didn't care, but Mouse did. He was actually fairly terrified. He planned to leave the house, but Nate didn't trust him to (he might run away or something stupid like that), so he'd probably be cowering in his room under his bed or something like that. I highly doubted he would leave his room for anything except to perhaps snatch a few pumpkin cookies. If he had the guts. Which he probably didn't.
Good. I wouldn't want stupid Mouse to ruin the party. Nate would be livid.
I lounged on the couch, yawned. "Don't show your goddammed teeth, Shade." Nate growled, his eyes flashing. He looked frazzled, like he was barely holding himself together. It was odd to see him like that. He was usually quite composed. "Jeagus they're sharp today." I smiled at him cheekily, and he flipped me off before scrambling to answer the doorbell that had just rung.
Nate's POV:
At exactly six-o'-clock, the first few guests walked in. They knew I didn't like to be kept waiting. I straightened my tie, pleased to see that they had taken the dress code into consideration. They hung their suit coats on the provided rack and I permitted my fellow Commanders and Elites to shake my hand.
"Yes, right this way. Welcome." I said, smiling curtly. To tell the truth, I hated affairs like this. Cleaning up afterwords was always quite a pain.
"Nice place you have here, Nate." Jeff said, nodding formally. I had always liked Jeff. He was a brilliant man, one of the head scientists of Project: Invincible. "Why thank you, my good man." I replied, then gestured towards the living room where the meeting would be taking place. "Please take a seat."
Darel's POV:
My stomach growled as the smell of pumpkin wafted up tantalizingly from downstairs. I sniffed at the air, whimpered a bit. How long exactly had it been since I'd had anything with pumpkin? Too long. I made the decision that it was about time that I break the vicious cycle of being seasonal-food-less.
"Hmph. Not like I'm scared of a few dumb Shadows anyway." I told myself. "The worst they can do is--" memories of my experiences with Project: Invincible flashed through my mind, and I staggered back away from my door. "Agh. You can do this. They're just people. Yeah, just people here for a party. Nothing more."
I gathered my resolve and twisted my doorknob, my face determined. I stepped into the upstairs hallway, which smelled even more strongly of pumpkin, but was (of course) empty of all people. Nobody ever came up here except for sometimes Shade. Her room was the farthest down the hall from mine. She said she liked upstairs because of the fact that her window was large and opened to the only oak tree in our (expansive) yard. Apparently she enjoyed jumping out and back in from the tree (as a cat, usually). Shade had always been a bit of a mystery to me. I hardly understood her. I hardly even knew her.
Get back to the task at hand. Do you want that Halloween desert or not? I strengthened my resolve and headed towards the stairs. It wasn't like I was going to run into the Shadow Leader....
Jade's POV:
I was one of the first to arrive. Dressed nicely, in a flowing red dress and black gloves, a cape around my shoulders, and high heels to give me the illusion that I was taller. Nate opened the door, a courteous look on his face, but his crystal blue eyes gave away his distaste.
"Hello, Nate." I said, nodding slightly, and brushed past him before he could say anything. Others looked in my direction, some greeting me, offering food, or just nodded. I ignored those who tried to make conversation, flowing around the room. So this is the house. Because of the recent loss of the war, I had gained my memories back, remembering my past. How Shelak betrayed me, how John was the one who inflicted the long, horizontal scar across my cheek, how he wiped my head. This was a warning. Stay away from Rat. Darel Jones, one of my many projects, but a more recent one, a part of Project: Invincible. Rat. I called him that because that was what came to mind when I looked at him. Because I couldn't remember.
I took a small glass of champagne, sipping lightly, before turning and walking to the grand staircase, walking up them slowly. No one payed mind, no one really cared that I was already bored with the party. I made it to the top of the stairs and looked down the dark hallway, my eyes adjusting, before seeing a silhouette. I blinked, before seeing who it was.
When I did, my breath caught, and I went rigid. It was Darel. How could you do this to me!? We were friends, we promised to never hurt someone who couldn't defend themselves! Why did you do this, Jade?! His last words before I turned and ran echoed in the back of my head. I didn't speak.

Lea's POV:
As one of Jade's assistants and a high ranking, I was forced to leave behind my lab and come to the party. I was practically shoved out of my lab, and didn't have any time to change, so I ended up at the Jones house with my lab coat on, and a oil smear on my cheek. My hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, pieces of it falling out and brushing against my cheeks.
I sighed, and knocked. When the door opened, my eyes met Nate's and his face scrunched into disgust. A smile pulled slightly at my lips. Maybe this party wouldn't be that bad.
Bea's POV:
I slipped through Shade's window instead of the front door, as soon as I saw Nate was the greeter. "Like hell I'm going to say hi to him." I muttered. Even though it's been a year, I was still bitter towards him, and...still was confused about my feelings toward him. Although I came to the conclusion that I had feelings for Shade, I couldn't help but admit to the fact that my stomach would twist and turn and I would feel dizzy when I saw him. Make up your mind, idiot. And do not choose Nate. I thought, brushing my dress off, and closed Shade's massive window behind me.
I glanced around her room, smiling at all her stuff, her bow, her countless sweaters in a pile. Some fingerless gloves on her dresser. I stepped through her room, my boots sinking into the soft carpet, and then opened the door. I saw a couple down the hall from me, but I couldn't pick their faces. I glanced around and saw another staircase closer to me, and took that one instead, skipping down the steps, and saw Shade on a couch, lounging. I smirked, shook out my nerves and thoughts about Nate, and hopped over the couch, landing by her.
"Sup, Grey." I said casually, flashing her a grin.
Darel's POV:
"O-oh m-my g-g-g..." I couldn't even finish my sentence. "W-w-w-..." I hadn't stuttered this badly in months, since the conclusion of the experiment. I was sure I looked like a deer in the headlights, and I certainly felt like one as well. I was shocked, scared, and possibly there was some happiness mixed in there too. You don't like her still, do ya? What the hell is wrong with you? I cut off the voice and forced myself to stay standing, though my legs were, at this point, struggling to hold me up. "U-uh..." I felt the familiar uncomfortable sensation in my brain, very much like static. Don't transform. Not now. Please not now. This sort of thing tended to happen in uncomfortable or bad situations, and I was still getting the hang of controlling it.
The sensation of the souls in my brain shifting was very clear to me, and I knew that this could be bad. Especially if you end up being a carnivore. A hungry one. I blinked rapidly, trying to maintain what little composure I still had. "S-so. N-nice party, h-h-huh?" And then it happened. My brain sparked, and the souls howled for attention. I felt the ring form around my eyes, felt myself losing control. I was forced to my knees, then let out a pained growl.
"Sorry." I managed to mutter, and then I was no longer in control. As a matter of fact, I wasn't even a human.
Nate's POV:
"Lea, did you not get the memo?" I asked her innocently, my eyes clashing immensely with hers. "Nice dress, remember?" I grabbed her hand and dragged her into the kitchen. I then proceeded to whisper-yell at her. "LEA, YOU'RE GONNA MAKE A FOOL OF YOURSELF. EVERYONE IMPORTANT IS HERE AND-" The oven dinged, and I quickly grabbed a pan of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies out of it. "Agggghhhhh." I finished, scowling. To diffuse the situation, I stuffed a cookie in Lea's mouth. Smooth as sandpaper.
Shade's POV:
"Heeeeeey Bea..." I replied, munching on a cookie. "This party is lame." I yawned loudly, drawing more than a few glances at my pointed teeth. One of the lower ranking soldiers mumbled something about how I had a nice costume. In response, I just grinned at him. That shut him up in a hurry. I turned back to Bea, the ghost of a smile still on my face. "So how have you been lately, Bea?" I asked her. My stormy eyes darted quickly up to her hazy ones, then looked away just as quickly. Why was that so awkward? She's just your friend...right? I felt a slight lurch in my stomach and felt a stupid smile on my face. Maybe she's more. I sat up slightly, trying to be taller than her, at least sitting down.
Bea's POV:
I shrugged and looked around, for the booze. "Eh, there's no have dressed people in slutty costumes, nor loud music, nor good liquor. Yeah, it's definitely not feeling like a Halloween party." I grinned, and nudged her. "Which is why we should ditch. There's parties all over town, we wouldn't have to wear dresses, just some good ol' costumes." Slutty costumes at that.
I kept myself from thinking about Shade in a costume I saw on the way here. Maid costume, lacy, barely going past her butt. Jesus Christ. I blushed and let my gaze flicker over the crowd. "No one here is fun anyway."
Jade's POV:
I snapped out of my daze and reacted without thinking. Pulling off my glove, I bent down and touched the side of his neck, faintly, and he howled. I saw he was turning into a wolf, and then saw memories flash in the back of my mind. For once, I let myself wander in his memories, of getting beat up by, Henry, was it? Seeing a small girl with white hair, running into the sunflower patch by the school.
I blinked, and came back to reality, seeing Darel on the floor, human again. He was breathing heavily, and I could tell my touch was lingering for too long. Dammit. I thought to myself. I got lost in his head and forgot to pull away. I pulled my glove back on, gently smoothing out the wrinkles in the silky material. Then, I leaned down and picked him up, and carried him down the hallway.
Glancing around, the first room I stepped into was dark, with almost nothing in it. The walls were a dark grey, and his bed had one blanket over it, a dark green. I looked at the desk across from it, and noticed the notes scattered across it, equations and theories of all over the spectrum of science. I smiled a little, looking at some. "Quite the scientist." I murmured, before setting Darel on the bed. I sat by him, and looked down at him. My eyes fell onto a scar running from his upper cheek to his mouth, making it seem like he was smiling. "I'm so sorry..." I murmured.
Lea's POV:
I ate the cookie, swallowing it. "Too dry." I muttered. "I didn't have any time nor any clothes to change into. You cannot blame me for this." I said, my voice sharp. "And I'm not going to make a fool of myself. It's petty to feel like you must dress up with a bow tied neatly around your neck – or in your case, tied like you're trying to choke yourself – and wearing all black. I can feel and look important with what I'm wearing now." I flicked a crumb off my shoulder.
Shade's POV:
"Agreed, let's ditch this place." I said, looking over at her. I noticed a faint blush rising on her face, and my smile fell. "Hey, you okay Bea?" I asked her, my voice concerned. "Let's get ya out of here. It's probably too hot for you or something, with all those cookies Nate made." I grabbed her by the hand, trying not to feel just how warm and soft her skin was, trying to keep from blushing myself.
Nate's POV:
Ugh, I hated it when people talked back to me. "Agh. Well I suppose there's nothing we can do about it now, seeing as you're already here." I mumbled. I absently brushed a few stray cookie crumbs from the front of her lab coat and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Hmm."
Darel's POV:
I knew what had happened almost instantly. I mumbled a bit, feeling drained and a bit sick. "U-ugh...." I tried to sit up, but I felt very dizzy. All my strength was gone. All I knew was that Jade, my old middle-school crush, was in my room. "J-Jade," I mumbled, opening my eyes. "I'm s-sorry. I l-lost control and put us both in danger." I was afraid of her, of course. She was the Shadow Leader. But I couldn't help but feel a hint of the old comfort I used to feel with her.
Jade's POV:
My eyes flickered up to his, and I shook my head slightly, standing. I pulled the cape around my shoulders tightly around me, almost protectively. I've been in this room before. When we were alone, because his father was on a trip of some sorts, both his brother and cousin out and about. He wanted to show me around his house, and then we ended up in his room, just sitting quietly, in our own thoughts. That was...right before I was taken. I swallowed, trying to keep my composure. "You put no one in danger. I can control you. I'm sorry I never taught you to control your Shadow, nor your animals within you. I should have." I looked back at him.
Lea's POV:
I leaned my head into his hand as it brushed against my ear. Such a long time to be alone... I thought, and let a small smile grace my lips, and reached to the pan still in Nate's other hand, and grabbed a cookie. "Let's go back to the party. I have people to talk to." I said, pushing the cookie between his lips. I smiled some more and pulled him into the party once again, holding onto his hand.
Bea's POV:
I smiled nervously, and let her lead the to the front door. But as she put her hand on the doorknob, my eyes fell onto him. "Nate." I murmured, just barely under my breath. He had a cookie in his mouth and his hand in...Lea Vindico's. Arghh.... I felt my throat get tight. One year later and I still haven't gotten over him.
Darel's POV:
